Consultation
Sometimes when we recognize we need some help, we don’t always know where to begin. I am happy to provide single or short-term sessions that we can assess your situation and help to organize what supports you might need. We can also work to connect you to other community resources and/or organize a team of providers you already have in place. No commitments – just a chat to figure out what direction you may want to head.
Counseling & Coaching
Talk and play therapy can often help children (and adults) learn how to manage difficult feelings, emotions and behaviors. Through counseling, we’ll learn that no emotions are bad emotions, but we all make choices with our behaviors that can have positive or negative consequences. For young children, Dr. Julie is happy to work with parents on how to understand, connect, and communicate with your child, and how to establish healthy boundaries while remaining calm and compassionate. I hardly ever see children individually for therapy – I prefer to work with the adults in the child’s life to make sure the caregivers develop the skills and consistency to create the best possible chance for a child to be successful. For older teenager and adults, we can talk about the changes you want to make in your life. Change is hard, and we can work together to overcome obstacles to your goals.
No long-term therapy here! Dr. Julie offers blocks of 4-, 6, or 8-session packages so that we can focus on specific things to work on targeted areas.
Animal Assisted Therapy
Private Session(s) with Dr. Keen & Maggie the Cocker Spaniel Therapy Dog
As a form of play therapy, research shows that animal-assisted therapy has been shown to improve a person’s social, emotional, or cognitive functioning. Animal-assisted therapy incorporates Maggie the Therapy Dog into treatment. Advocates of animal-assisted therapy say that developing a bond with an animal can help people develop a better sense of self-worth and trust, stabilize their emotions, and improve their communication, self-regulation, and socialization skills. Dr. Julie offers blocks of 4-, 6, or 8-session packages so that we can focus on specific things to work on targeted areas.
